Every week before we go grocery shopping, my wife and I make a grocery list. We look up recipes we would like to make and create a list ….and we stick to it.
Stay Away from the Center
When we go to the grocery store we buy what is on the list and nothing more. Most of our items come from the perimeter of the store. We do not buy much from the center. We focus on fruits and vegetables, meats and alternatives, dairy products, and multigrain products, with a few exceptions.
Eating Healthy on a Budget
Eating healthy can sometimes be expensive. We like to use Flipp to see weekly specials on fruits, vegetables, and other products. We choose items on sale and work them into our meal plan for the week. Sticking to a list will not only help you develop healthy habits it will also help you adhere to a budget. Eating healthy food is an investment in your health.

As mentioned in a previous post, use the Canadian Food Guide. It will guide you on portion sizes and the amount you need of each food group. This will also help you select the items on your list.
